Our mission

The stories behind the objects

Heirsay exists for one reason: the stories attached to family heirlooms are irreplaceable, and they are disappearing every day.

Why we built Heirsay

Think about the objects in your home that have been passed down through generations. A watch. A piece of jewelry. A set of tools. An old photograph. A piece of furniture. These things carry weight—not just sentimental weight, but actual history. Who owned them? Where did they come from? What was happening in the world when they were made?

The answers to those questions live in people. And people, unlike objects, don't last forever. Every year, the people who know the stories behind our most precious possessions pass away, and the stories go with them. An heirloom without its story is still beautiful, but it has lost something that can never be recovered.

We built Heirsay because we believe capturing those stories should be as easy as taking a photo. You should be able to sit down with a grandparent, hold up your phone, and record the story of a pocket watch in the same amount of time it takes to send a text message.

A physical label on an object travels with the object. It survives estate sales, moves, and generations of new owners.

Bridging the physical and the digital

The defining feature of Heirsay isn't the recording—it's the Heirtag. When you attach a small sticker to the bottom of a vase or the back of a picture frame, you permanently connect that physical object to its digital story. Anyone who picks up the object decades from now can scan it and hear the story in the voice of the person who told it.

That connection matters. A digital archive locked inside an app gets lost when phones change or services shut down. A physical label on an object travels with the object. The story stays attached to the thing it belongs to.

We designed Heirsay to be simple enough for anyone to use. You don't need to be tech-savvy to photograph an heirloom, press record, and speak from the heart. The app handles the rest: transcription, organization, backup, and sharing with the family members who care about these objects as much as you do.

What we believe

Stories over stuff

An heirloom's value comes from its story, not its price tag. A handmade wooden spoon with a great story is worth more than a diamond ring with none.

Your data, your memories

Your family's stories belong to your family. Heirsay gives you full data export at any time. We never sell your data or use your content to train AI.

Simple and lasting

We favor simplicity and longevity over features and complexity. Heirsay should still work — and still hold your stories — decades from now.
